The long chase is finally over. In a major win for Indian law enforcement, Anmol Bishnoi, a key member of a powerful and dangerous crime syndicate, was deported from the United States and immediately arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) upon landing in Delhi. This arrest is not just about catching one fugitive. It is a big step towards breaking down a major criminal network that operates not only across India but also from foreign countries.

Anmol Bishnoi is the younger brother of the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. For a long time, he was one of the people running the gang’s business and criminal activities from abroad, making him a central figure in their international operations. He was hiding and managing things from the US after fleeing India back in 2022. He was brought back to India on a special flight, and the moment he landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the NIA was there to take him into custody. He has since been sent to NIA custody for 11 days by a Delhi court for a detailed investigation.

The Man Who Managed Things From Abroad

Who exactly is Anmol Bishnoi and why is his arrest so important?

Anmol Bishnoi is reportedly a key strategist for his brother’s gang. With Lawrence Bishnoi in prison, Anmol was allegedly the one managing the day-to-day operations, especially the large-scale extortion rackets and high-profile criminal plots. He was doing this while moving between countries like the US and Canada.

He left India in May 2022, shortly before the shocking murder of a famous Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moosewala, a crime for which his gang is the main suspect. He is believed to have used a fake passport to leave the country. For the past two years, Indian agencies, including the NIA and state police forces, have been working hard to track him down. The NIA even announced a reward of ten lakh rupees for information leading to his arrest, showing how seriously they viewed his role in the criminal network.

The process of bringing him back was a complex one, involving the Indian government working closely with US agencies. His attempt to seek asylum in the US was rejected, which cleared the way for his deportation back to India to face justice.

Linked to High-Profile Crimes

Anmol Bishnoi is wanted in connection with some of the biggest and most sensational crimes that have shocked India recently.

He is listed as a main accused in the shocking murder of former Maharashtra Minister, Baba Siddique. The politician was shot dead last year, and the Mumbai Police filed a chargesheet naming Anmol as the person who plotted the murder from abroad. Authorities believe the crime was planned to show the gang's power and instill fear. Investigators have reportedly found voice clips and other digital evidence showing Anmol giving instructions for the hit.

His name is also connected to the frightening firing incident outside the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan earlier this year. A social media post claiming responsibility for the firing was allegedly made from an account linked to Anmol Bishnoi. This incident caused huge concern across the country about the reach of these criminal gangs.

Furthermore, he is accused of providing the logistical support, including weapons, to the shooters who killed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022. These three cases alone highlight the dangerous and far-reaching nature of the crime syndicate he helped manage.

The NIA’s Key Role

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a special force in India that looks into serious crimes, especially those linked to terrorism and organized crime with international connections. The NIA registered a case in 2022 to look into the alleged link between criminal gangs and a terror group called Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

The NIA believes the Bishnoi gang is not just involved in local crime but is part of a larger plan to raise money, recruit young people, and carry out acts of terrorism in India. Anmol Bishnoi was charged by the NIA in March 2023 for actively helping his brother and another designated terrorist in carrying out these activities between 2020 and 2023.

By arresting Anmol, the NIA hopes to get important information about:

  • The Modus Operandi or the way the criminal network operates.

  • The source of funding and how the money from extortion is moved globally.

  • Details of the social media accounts used by the gang to claim responsibility for crimes and threaten people.

His interrogation is crucial for mapping out the gang’s full network, its connections with international crime, and how it manages to use technology to stay ahead of the police.

A Major Breakthrough

Anmol Bishnoi’s deportation marks a huge success for India’s central and state agencies who have been working together for months. This is a clear message that fleeing the country will not help criminals escape justice. The government’s determination to dismantle these international crime syndicates is strong.

The investigators believe that with Anmol in custody, they can finally get the inside information needed to fully break down the financial, logistical, and operational structure of the entire Lawrence Bishnoi gang. His arrest is the 19th in the NIA's case against the crime syndicate, proving the serious effort being put in to stop these groups.

This is a turning point in the investigation of several high-profile crimes. The victims’ families, who have been waiting for justice, are now hopeful that the mastermind will be fully investigated and brought to trial. The coming days of his custody will be key as the NIA works to unlock the full extent of this powerful and dangerous criminal empire.
