The case of the murder of Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, whose mutilated body had been found in a gorge in Meghalaya only a few days after his marriage, is being developed as a feature film.

The film is based on the life of Raja Singh alias Ajay Singh and the title is yet to be finalized as it is reportedly titled as Honeymoon in Shillong and it is directed by SP Nimbawat with the consent and support of the family of Raja Singh.

In May 2025, it was the day the honeymoon of newly married Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam began to take off what could have been a romantic celebration in the beautiful hills of Meghalaya. Yet, not so long by the end of May their love affair turned into the tragedy.

The mutilated body of Raja was recovered on June 2 at the bottom of deep gorges near Cassidy Falls, at Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills. The violent character of the murder, along with the disclosure of a suspected extramarital affair, brought the case into the national limelight.

Police arrested eight people including Sonam and her suspected lover, Raj Kushwaha, after a full-fledged investigation. This gave an explanation that it might be a pre-thought conspiracy because Raja was enticed to Meghalaya and brutally murdered with the involvement of betrayal and deception.

The director SP Nimbawat, who now took the burden of remaking the incident in the movie, stated:

• Raja grew up in Indore and to evolve the emotional background, the shoot will be done in Indore in 80 percent of it.

• A substantial 20 per cent will be shot in various regions in Meghalaya such as Sohra and Shillong so as to capture the reality of the locations utilized in the actual event.

The making of the film has been publicly endorsed by the family of Raja in a rare occurrence. When the reporters interviewed his elder brother Sachin Raghuvanshi, he is quoted as saying,

We have permitted the future movie on the case of murder. We are convinced that unless we take the big screen with the story of how my brother was murdered people will not be in a position to know who between us was doing the right or wrong thing.”

His other brother,Vipin, further commented that they too want the movie to project the right photo of Meghalaya, which is a state which has suffered under this tragedy as far as the common vocabulary is concerned.

They choose to take their case on the side of the project, not because they are driven by their sensationalism urge, but because they want justice to be seen in the court of the people.

The movie is to them an avenue of exposing the betrayal, and making sure that the name Raja is remembered as what he was a brutally deceived man and not a murdered man.
