In some instances, such as anxiety attacks, claustrophobia and flight-induced trauma, mental health episodes are medical emergencies rather than acts of crime. Think of how vulnerable you are in yourself, sweaty palms, elevated heart rate, an inability to breathe and rather than assistance you are kicked. Not only is this unacceptable, but it is also inhuman. Airlines have no use with panic, they require protocols. IndiGo and most of the other airlines trumpet the safety regulations and hospitality. However, it is still rudimentary in terms of mental health training of cabin crew. Why was no medical personnel involved and instead resorted to eviction?  Why did the passenger, arranging assault on another person not receive a reprimand on the spot? One panic-stricken man was enough enough to test the capacity of the crew to give care. What would happen in case of an actual in-flight mental health crisis? This is evidence that airlines must be well trained on the topic of mental health crises and have their policies be more empathetic to individuals experiencing them as opposed to mistreating them. An IIT Madras  professor has contributed to shaping how Nisar , the Indo-US satellite launched on Wednesday, will observe coastal regions. Indian institute was up to the mark of its scientific expertise when it added a new feather to its cap and provided invaluable scientific knowledge during the collaboration of two great space bodies of the world- ISRO and NASA with an ambitious project upon a satellite mission. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), one of the premier technical institutions in India was also instrumental in getting a fine-tuning of this mission with the anticipated objective of transforming our knowledge of the coastal systems across the globe. Common to this international cooperation was Professor Manikandan Mathur of the department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras, whose input on a crucial question of when, where and how frequently the satellite will capture the coastal imagery was very critical.  His contribution integrated into the design of the missions and assisted in streamlining one of the most complicated examples of the Earth observation projects in several decades. NASA-ISRO satellite Mission (NISAR) The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite is a revolutionary Earth monitoring mission that will gather information on natural disasters, changes in the environment, climate change, and melting of ice sheets. What is more ambitious is that it will examine the land and ocean surfaces that cover the Earth with unrivaled precision and frequency and this unrivalled knowledge and detailed analysis will be significant in a world that is warming, fast changing. However, it does not even end there in building such a satellite. The mission could work only when the scientists understood where and how frequently to focus its sensors, the more so on the complicated coast areas, which are both ecologically sensitive and vital economically. This is where IIT Madras was involved. Accuracy at the coasts of India It was the work of Professor Manikandan Mathur and his group of IIT Madras who collaborated with ISRO and NASA to study the coastal areas, especially those prone to erosion, floods, and rising sea level. His work assisted in establishing key timelines within which the satellite must concentrate on such areas in order to capture the seasonal changes, storm and tidal variability. His group came up with scientific models that determined the times when coastal features could be the clearest and the options of certain weather and sea conditions as regards clarity of the pictures. That assisted the engineers to programme the satellite sensors in order to maximize on the quality of the data obtained so that the right images can be obtained at the right time. With time being of paramount importance in that type of mission, the recommendations went as far as defining how the radar systems of the satellite operated over a coastal region not only in India but also around the world. Indian scientists such as Professor Mathur are realizing the limit of interdisciplinary research by merging data modelling of oceans and applications in the aerospace industries. Nowadays, when the world is facing the issue of climate uncertainty, the capability to track the coast of the planet in real-time could save millions of human lives and even billions of dollars in destruction. And it is no longer that India is simply putting rockets into orbit but it is also helping to determine where the rockets look and when they fire. Volcanic Eruption And Earthquake Hit Russia’s East Within just a few hours, the Earth has reminded us that nature is unpredictable and very powerful. Following a powerful earthquake and subsequent tsunami that shook Eastern Russia and parts of Pacific rim, another devastating thing happened which is the eruption of the tallest active volcano in Russia, Klyuchevskaya Sopka. It was not only a disaster. It was a frightening series of domino effects of the wrath of nature and it happened all in a single day. The Order of Disorder Early on the morning of July 30th a strong earthquake, of 8.7 on the Richter scale, took place off the Russian far eastern coast. In a matter of minutes, warning of tsunami were declared, towns along the coast were ordered to evacuate, and videos with powerful waves can be seen washing up along the beaches in Japan and Alaska. As yet authorities haveno chance to evaluate the full effects of the earthquake and the tsunami, another disaster has hit this country in the form of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano that is the highest volcano and the most active volcano in the whole of Eurasia, breaking the bank earlier on. They were thick columns of ash that were shot in the air beyond 12 kilometers, and were observed even in the satellite images. Hot lava was flowing down its icy slopes and tremors were still being felt in the surroundings. Planes were redirected, and the emergency preparations were announced in Kamchatka Peninsula. Klyuchevskaya Sopka, the Sleeping Giant Awakens This is one of the greatest volcanoes of the world, as standing over 15,000 on its feet, Klyuchevskaya Sopka speaks volumes of its strength. This was an area connoted with explosive history and yet in the past few years it has been relatively quiet, until now. Scientists had been observing signing tremors in the area of the eruption for some weeks and there were no signs, however, that a massive explosion was imminent. The eruption is currently under a level of Code Red Classifying for aviation as the highest level. Aircraft engines are harmful to volcanic ash and this may lead to failure of aircraft in mid-air. More than 25 local and international flights within the vicinities of the region are already canceled or redirected. Scientists Blow the Whistle A recent pattern of unusual clumping of extreme natural disasters in a 24 hours period is of a concern among the geologists and seismologists. Although every occurrence can be seen as discrete, other scientists are examining whether there might be underground tectonic links amid the earthquake and volcanic eruption. Other possible causes are also the condition of climate change, melting glaciers and change of pressure points in the crust of the earth. The speed at which the catastrophes hit one another may be an indicator that our world is ushering into a more unstable geological era which most professionals fear. The Human Impact Although there are yet no reports of immediate casualties due to the volcano eruption, this situation is still evolving.
